HVAC Cooling Products That Will Save You Money

HVAC Cooling Products That Will Save You MoneyWhen it comes to units that keep you cool during the summer there are several options .to choose. Each unit has its function, some are better suited for certain climates, and others are entirely designed with efficiency in mind. Looking for a new cooling system can be a confusing experience that makes you feel like your head is spinning because of the fact that there are so many options. That’s why this blog is dedicated to those in the market for a cooling system and helping them make sense of everything around them.

It’s important that you have some information when in the market for a new AC. After all, you wouldn’t think about buying a car without doing some research, would you? Well an AC can last you just as long as a car and be a significant investment in your life, so the more you know, the better!

Air Conditioners:

When you think about staying cool during the summer, you think about AC units, but not all air conditioners are created equal. Sure there are plenty of highly functional, energy efficient central AC systems out there, but there are also several different kinds of air conditioners on the market that are entirely designed to save you money. With so many options it’s important to know what the major styles are and what the rating system is.

  • Solar Powered: Take energy straight from the sun and use it to power your comfort system. A solar powered AC comes with panels you place on your roof that connect to your AC. From there the process is quite simple, the sun powers your AC. That said, the best part of owning a solar ready AC is that whatever energy your solar panels capture that is leftover from powering your AC is used in other parts of your home that require energy.
  • Ductless Mini-Split: Ductless air conditioners are built upon the central principle of energy efficiency. In your typical air conditioner, you have ductwork that travels throughout your home carrying cool or hot, air to each part of your home. Unfortunately, leaks in the ductwork can lead to air failing to reach its proper destination, and thus becoming a waste. A ductless AC does not have that problem because it does not have ducts. But it’s also their lack of ducts that limit ductless AC units to a single room. Ductless AC is a perfect option for small spaces, rooms, or apartments.
  • SEER Ratings: Each air conditioner will have a SEER rating, which basically measures the energy efficiency of each unit. To keep things simple we’ll just say SEER ratings can fall anywhere between 14 and 25 and that the higher the rating is, the more efficient the unit will be.

Heat Pump

A heat pump is different from an air conditioner in the way it works but both systems share the same end goal. A typical air conditioner uses chemical reactions to create cool air and then pumps that air throughout the home. A heat pump, on the other hand, uses a chemical reaction to transfer heat from one point to another. So if it is a hot day outside your heat pump would pump hot air out of your home, leaving a cooler temperature. That same process works in the opposite direction during the winter.

Heat Pumps are very efficient products that are ideal for regions with temperate climates that allow the heat pump to obtain the proper levels of heat needed to make a difference in temperature.

You may be thinking, “Hey, a thermostat doesn’t keep me cool.” And though you may have a point, you’d technically be wrong. Your thermostat is the tool you use to tell your air conditioner what to do. Think about it, if you want it to be colder in your house you don’t go outside to your air conditioner, you go to your thermostat. So if there is a programmable thermostat that will match your AC use with your daily schedule you will reap the savings.

Schedule your unit to take it easy while you’re at work, and have it kick back up while you’re on your way home. It uses up less energy than turning your AC on and off uses and lets you set it and forget it. The thermostat doesn’t directly keep you cool, but a smart one, but a smart one saves you money so it’s definitely worth considering.
